Portfolio > To Make a House a Home

This series began as a celebration of the patterns, textures, and details of the houses and apartments I’ve lived in during my most recent, long period of transition. These works serve as a place for me to record and recall the things I loved about the places I called home, while living in 5 states and 10 houses or apartments in 8 years.

As I’ve slowly acclimated to my newest environment, this work has morphed into a rumination on love, belonging, and otherness. It is a celebration of the process of becoming home, wherever I am. As a northerner living in the south I will always feel like an outsider, but I am home here now.

This series has taken on another layer for me during the pandemic. Now that we are all quarantined in our homes, I am refocused on the ideas of the safety and security. My desire to fortify my structure and my relationship grows, as does the garden I’ve planted which brings me so much solace.
